In 2018, Murphy retired from the retail side of the flooring business. He became a Certified Flooring Inspector for mills, distributors, and homeowners. His love for identifying the root cause of flooring issues, combined with 40 years of experience, makes this a perfect match, especially with the addition of infrared technology.

In 2005, he founded MIBI (Mobile Infrared Building Imaging) as a complementary business to support him in his role as General Manager of Peeks Flooring. Peek’s was a conglomerate of flooring stores throughout the Dallas Metroplex. He was one of the first Level One certified infrared specialists for flooring.

He had previously owned a flooring establishment outside of Baltimore, MD, since 1974, initially on a part-time basis. Those services evolved to include flooring sales, installation, and repair of all types of flooring, encompassing services such as carpet, tile, upholstery, and wood cleaning. Carpet Knights was a full-service flooring operation up until 1994.

He spent years working alongside his sons in a family antique business, buying and selling antiques in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and South Carolina.

He worked as General Manager of Peek’s Carpet & Tile from 2002 to 2018.

With his vast knowledge of flooring and his affection for animals (five dogs and numerous ducks), he is highly regarded by his coworkers and sales representatives who have had the pleasure of working with him.

In September of 2024, Dustin joined MIBI Services and, in January 2025, became a Certified Flooring Inspector through CFIU and is certified in Equine/ K-9 Thermology.

He has 20 years of experience in the flooring business and with Infrared technology. He was fascinated by infrared technology and its numerous applications, including home scans, as well as scans for homes and dogs.

He previously worked at Peek’s Carpet and Tile from 2007 to 2018. He worked his way from warehouse helper to Operations Manager. He learned all aspects from installation to accounting and software.

In 2019, Dustin was hired as the General Manager at Flooring Direct. He helped grow the company from 5 million installed in his first year to 14 million a year when he left in 2024.

After noticing the shortage of inspectors a few years ago in Dallas, he made a plan to learn as much as possible about flooring inspections. He began conducting inspections and preparing internal reports for Flooring Direct. When a suitable replacement was in place, he made the jump to working for MIBI.
